Sean O’Malley is one of the fastest rising stars in the UFC business

Sean O’Malley might only be three fights old in his UFC career, but he has already made a name for himself.

The 25-year-old is 11-0 in his professional MMA career, and seems set for a bright future. He was speaking with Ariel Helwani and was asked about his unique fighting style.

Before Helwani could compare him with some stars, O’Malley was asked about it.

The bantamweight star compared his striking style to Irishman Conor McGregor, but highlighted he had a few aces up his sleeve:

“There is no one. I get compared by some people, that I have a similar striking style to Conor [McGregor] and I do in a sense, but I have way more tools than Conor.

“Conor’s a really high-level striker, you can’t do that without being as good as he is but I feel that when you compare my striking, I have way more tools than him.”

Fighting out of both stanzas

The American added that he could do a lot of work from both stanzas and that made him different:

“I can literally stand in both stanzas and do everything in both stanzas, I think that similarity is there a little bit.

Helwani suggested that O’Malley’s fighting style was similar to maybe Anderson Silva or even Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

O’Malley added that he did learn things from Adesanya but also other UFC stars such as TJ Dillashaw and Anthony Pettis.

The youngster has been impressive in his three outings in the UFC but he knew there is a long way to go.

O’Malley didn’t believe that Bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo wanted to fight him. However, that was due to him not being ranked in the UFC yet.
