Dustin Poirier is willing to take on Tony Ferguson or Justin Gaethje
UFC star Dustin Poirier isn’t on the UFC 249 card but is willing to make it on short notice.
The UFC have a problem on their hands regarding the fight card for that event. Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson is the main event, but they are having problems filling up the rest of the card.
The fight takes place on 18 April and Poirier was more than willing to join in. The Lightweight star was speaking to Ariel Helwani and opened up on what had been discussed with the UFC:
“I was trying to get it out to the media that I am open. They are begging for fights, and if they need somebody and if nobodies ready it at 155, then I will do it.”
Helwani asked what was the UFC’s response to this, but Poirier didn’t have a lot to say.
The American was told to keep working for his UFC event in May. However, Poirier believed the fight would not take place in a month’s time.
He added that he would need to get into shape but it wasn’t easy given the current circumstances. His training partners were social distancing, but still, it didn’t feel like a proper training regime.
Helwani then asked who Poirier wanted to fight, and the American claimed he could beat one of the big names in the division:
“I’ll fight anybody. I think I’d beat up Tony [Ferguson], man. I really do, I think the [Justin] Gaethje fight as well, I would do a rematch with him as well.”
Ferguson already has a big clash on 18 April and it would be interesting to see if Poirier could get the better of him.
Khabib defends his title against Ferguson while Gaethje has been linked with a fight against Conor McGregor.
Poirier ended by again repeating that he wants to fight whenever possible, and was willing to get ready for UFC 249.
