Women’s strawweight fighter Kay Hansen releases statement after no longer being in the UFC
Kay Hansen had a rough weight cut leading up to her bout against Piera Rodriguez. She weighed in at 118.5 lbs., almost 2.5 pounds over the limit (over a one-pound allowance for non-title fights).
In all of her previous 12 bouts Hansen has never missed weight, and this was the first instance of her missing the mark. She also spoke to MMA Fighting in November last year about her struggles with an eating disorder that threatened to thwart her career. It was her series of collision with problems regarding mental health that helped her overcome this disorder.
MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz learned Wednesday that the promotion has opted not to re-sign the 22-year-old strawweight following her recent loss to Piera Rodriguez at UFC 273. The bout was her final fight on the contract.
She released a statement following the incident saying, ”22 years young. My career is just getting started ❤️⭐️👊”
What was Kay Hansen’s UFC record?
Kay Hansen formerly competed in Invicta FC before she signed for the UFC in 2020. She made her debut in June 2020 against Jinh Yu Frey and won the fight by submission.
Since then she has lost three straight fights, most recently against Piera Rodrigues, a fight in which she also missed weight. Her record inside the UFC is 1 win and 3 losses, while her overall record stands at 7 wins and 6 losses.
