Cynthia Calvillo recent defeated Jessica Eye in the UFC

Cynthia Calvillo produced one of her best performances at UFC Las Vegas 2 as she beat Jessica Eye.

There was a lot of controversy coming into the match with questions about Eye being overweight. While Eye claimed she missed weight by just 0.25 pounds, Calvillo and many others claimed it was close to four pounds.

Nevertheless, the Flyweight star beat the more experienced Eye, and questions are now being asked about who will fight the champion, Valentina Shevchenko.

Calvillo was speaking with Ariel Helwani on his MMA show and was asked how many fights she was away from facing Shevchenko.

However, Calvillo claimed she was already in the running to face the champion:

“I think I am in that discussion already, you know. It’s such a open division, there’s not many people, it’s so new, it’s easy to get to the title at Flyweight.

“Everybody in the top five pretty much kind of fought her already, as of yesterday, I am No.2, so I am right up there.

“Joanne Calderwood, who I already beat, is fighting for the title next. We’ll see how the fight goes.”

Confidence running through her veins

The win seems to have handed Calvillo a lot of confidence. The 32-year-old is now 9-1-1 in her MMA career and she has some big wins under her belt.

Shevchenko is considered as one of the greatest to have fought in the Octagon, but Calvillo believed she could give the champ a run for her money.

The American claimed she was one of the top grapplers in the division but was just taking it one fight at a time:

“It could be one more fight and I am next in line, I am not opposed to that. I just want to fight, keep going, fall down get back up.”

It will be interesting to see what happens between Calderwood and Shevchenko as the fight had to be moved due to an injury.

Calvillo should be in the running for a title shot after another fight or two, and hopefully, she does get a shot at Shevchenko.
