“Irrelevant” – Ali Abdelaziz hits out at possibility of Conor McGregor vs Georges St-Pierre

Georges St-Pierre has been linked with several big names over a return to the UFC

Ali Abdelaziz shot down any hopes of Conor McGregor facing off against Georges St-Pierre if the Canadian returned to the UFC.

GSP, as St-Pierre is called, is one of the greatest in the history of the UFC. The Canadian retired with a 26-2 record and left the Octagon in 2013. However, he returned for one fight against Michael Bisping in 2017 and won that too.

Abdelaziz has been in a war of words with McGregor for several years. The Egyptian is also the agent of Khabib Nurmagomedov and the topic of GSP returning was brought up by Brett Okamoto.

Abdelaziz was open to Khabib facing GSP, but laughed off the idea of McGregor getting into the action:

“Conor’s irrelevant right now. Listen, Khabib is No.1, No.2? [Justin] Gaethje and Tony [Ferguson].

“Conor is No.4. Why are we even talking about Conor? Nobody cares about Conor. Conor had an opportunity to fight Gaethje, now, Gaethje’s going to fight for the title and Conor’s going to sit in a stand watching or maybe he’s like illegally streaming the pay-per-view.”

Media made McGregor

Abdelaziz kept on destroying Conor with his words and blamed the “media” for creating the Irishman.

“I am talking about high-level fighters, I am talking about killers. We are not talking about money fights.

“We are talking about money? Yes, bring Conor but if you are talking about No.1 contender? Conor doesn’t even belong in there. He is No.4 right now.”

Okamoto did take offence to Abdelaziz’s comments about the media bigging up Conor. The ESPN reporter highlighted that no one from the media has suggested that McGregor should get a shot at Khabib’s Lightweight title.

Okamoto also believed that Khabib vs St-Pierre could be on the cards. However, that might be the Lightweight champion’s final fight in the UFC, and won’t be held now.

McGregor is the one who lost the most after the cancellation of UFC 249. He was to face Gaethje while Khabib was to defend his crown against Ferguson.

However, the coronavirus turned everything in the UFC world rather quickly.
