‘Bunch of old ass slick fighters’- Islam Makhachev unhappy with his new opponent

Islam Makhachev was recently scheduled to take on Thiago Moses in his next fight

Islam Makhachev had his wishes of landing a new opponent granted yesterday, after he was booked to fight Thiago Moises next, on the 17th of July, later this year.

However, the Dagestani seems to be unhappy now since the promotion has booked him against an opponent who is ranked outside the top 15. Makhachev for his part, has been on a splendid 7-match win streak, with his last loss dating back to October 2015.

After his win over, Drew Dober at UFC 259, Makhachev pushed him up in the lightweight rankings and now he sits at number 10.

A large part of his frustration was due to top ranked lightweights, especially Rafael Dos Anjos and Paul Felder not willing to fight him. He kept lamenting on Twitter that both have been avoiding him constantly.

And now, it has boiled over to Makhachev taking one final shot at the top 10 of the LW division. However, he promised to put on a show against Thiago Moises, despite Moises not being the opponent he deserved (according to Makhachev).

Makhachev tweeted:

“TOP 10 of LW division is a bunch of old ass slick fighters. Not a single one accepted the fight they were offered. NO MATTER WHAT, I’M GONNA KEEP MOVING AND GET THAT BELT SOON, with or without these clowns. See you July 17 @ufc @espnmma.”

Thiago Moises has been undefeated since August 2019

Thiago Moises might be ranked outside the top 15 of the lightweight rankings, but he sure does have a decent record in the UFC. Moises went 1-2 down after making his UFC debut, but the Brazilian bounced back with three consecutive victories.

His last victory was against the powerful Alexander Hernandez at UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs Gane.

Moises has won 15 of his 19 fights, and all his four losses have been via. unanimous decision. The man is a tough nut to crack!
