Islam Makhachev sounds warning to new UFC Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira

Islam Makhachev also congratulated Charles Oliveira on becoming the lightweight champion

Charles Oliveira showed the world why he has been a UFC mainstay. He went from 0 to 100, real quick.

Just when it seemed like Oliveira was down and out at the end of the first round, he came back from God-knows-where to knockout Michael Chandler, just 19 seconds into the second round. No one saw that coming.

Charles Oliveira defeated Michael Chandler at UFC 262 to become the Lightweight champion (UFC)

The Brazilian thereby claimed the vacant lightweight belt, previously owned by some of the greats of the game like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

The world arose to salute a hero who had defied life-threatening bone rheumatism at the tender age of 7 to overcome the ailment and strike rich in the UFC.

Fellow UFC Lightweight Islam Makhachev was impressed with Oliveira’s performance, as well. The Russian took to Twitter to congratulate him and then sounded off a warning that he would meet him soon.

Makhachev tweeted:

Islam Makhachev is scheduled to face Thiago Moises

Makhachev is currently ranked number 10 in the lightweight division. Despite being unbeaten for almost 6 years, and riding a hot win streak of 7, his progress to the top of the lightweight division has been pretty slow.

He is now scheduled to face Thiago Moises on the 17th of July. Moises is a pretty decent fighter, but he isn’t remotely close to Makhachev’s ranking.

Makhachev later expressed his disappointment at the top 10 of the lightweight division turning his fight down. However, he assured everyone that he would put on a show, come the 17th of July, and grab hold of the LW belt soon.

Makhachev tweeted:

“TOP 10 of LW division is a bunch of old ass slick fighters. Not a single one accepted the fight they were offered. NO MATTER WHAT, I’M GONNA KEEP MOVING AND GET THAT BELT SOON, with or without these clowns. See you July 17 @ufc @espnmma.”
