Islam Makhachev might finally step into the ring against Thiago Moises
It looks like Makhachev’s prayers and calls have finally been answered. The Dagestani is set to return to the octagon, against Thiago Moises of Brazil.
Over the last few weeks, Makhachev was growing increasingly frustrated because the UFC couldn’t land him a proper opponent. Top ranked lightweights like Rafael Dos Anjos and Paul Felder ducked him – at least that is what Makhachev claims.
Even his fellow Dagestani brother Khabib Nurmagomedov batted for him, asking the UFC to land him an opponent soon.
And now, according to a report from Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Makhachev will be returning to the Octagon on the 17th of July. The fight is expected to be a three-round lightweight bout.
Makhachev is currently on a 7-fight win streak. His last loss, came way back in October 2015, and it has been the only loss in his professional MMA career.
The Russian last fought only recently, taking on Drew Dober at UFC 259. He brought his wrestling skills to the fore, as he won via. submission.
Thiago Moises is ranked out of the top 15 in the lightweight rankings
Although Makhachev might be satisfied that he has finally been given an opponent to fight against, but a small part of his heart would be dejected that he will be fighting a much lower ranked opponent.
Thiago Moises is ranked outside the top 15 of the lightweight rankings. Even Dober, whom he took on last is in the top 15.
However, Moises is currently riding an impressive win streak of 3.
His last win was a unanimous decision victory against Alexander Hernandez; a week before Makhachev fought Dober.
