Israel Adesanya is expected to face Robert Whittaker next in a middleweight title bout
Israel Adesanya didn’t have much trouble seeing off Marvin Vettori at UFC 263. The Kiwi beat the Italian via. unanimous decision to successfully defend his middleweight title for the third time.
And, it is safe to say that he has pretty much cleared up the entire middleweight division. However, ‘The Reaper’, Robert Whittaker (against whom Adesanya won the middleweight title) has been wanting to have a crack at the ‘Last Stylebender’ again.
Hence, Adesanya called out Whittaker for a rematch at the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, following his win against Vettori. This time for a change, Adesanya wanted Whittaker to fight in his own backyard – Auckland.
Adesanya had beaten Whittaker at UFC 243 with a vicious KO blow.
However, it is not certain if the UFC would be moving abroad unless it is Fight Island, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the strict restrictions, especially in countries like Australia and New Zealand.
In a recent quarantine Q&A he posted on his YouTube channel, Israel Adesanya shared what his future goals were.
He just had one thing in mind – to beat up Robert Whittaker. Adesanya said:
“The next [future goal] one is definitely to f*** Robert Whittaker up. That’s my next goal…I have finished the Italian Job [Marvin Vettori] and now it’s the next sequel and yeah that’s how I can tell you guys, so far.”
The rematch between Adesanya and Whittaker doesn’t have a date as of now. But the UFC is expected to announce it soon.
