Israel Adesanya gives weight update as Jan Blachowicz clash draws closer

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is scheduled to take a step up to light heavyweight in order to take on current champion Jan Blachowicz.

The fight is scheduled for UFC 259 on March 6th this year. The fight will finally see the Last Stylebender climb up to the 205lb weight class, while this will be Blachowicz’s first title defence.

And, the Nigerian posted an update regarding his weight ahead of the fight. Adesanya posted on his Twitter account that he is a light heavyweight now.

Newly signed UFC fighter Carlos Ulberg is also seen in that picture. Ulberg is from New Zealand, the country where the middleweight champion also resides.

The photo features the caption “205 lbs”, while tweet says “Coupla lightys”, to imply that both Ulberg and Adesanya belong to that weight class.

Most of them acknowledge the obvious difference between the two. Adesanya is, of course, credited with more speed and agility than his Polish counterpart.

Blachowicz, on the other hand, has immense knockout power. The clash of two different styles has divided opinions between fellow UFC fighters and pundits.

Michael Chiesa has backed the Nigerian to come out victorious in this bout, while former UFC lightweight champion Daniel Cormier has served a warning to Adesanya about the Pole’s knockout power.

No matter what the outcome, the fight will be special. It could see Blachowicz defend his belt for the first time and truly stamp his dominance on the division.

Or, it can be the 21st straight professional MMA win for Adesanya, which will also see him become a double-champ.
