Israel Adesanya is moving up a division to face Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 and shared an update on his weight cut
UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya shared some details of his weight cut ahead of his UFC 259 title bout against Jan Blachowicz.
The Kiwi is undefeated in his career and is planning to hold two belts at the same time in the UFC. Only a handful of fighters have achieved this but Adesanya could be the first to do it while in the Middleweight division.
He faces a tough task in Blachowicz, who will be defending his title for the first time. All the talk has been about Adesanya moving up a division to face the Polish powerhouse.
Adesanya might need to bulk up but while speaking to MMA Junkie, he provided an update about his weight and decision not to do a lot of work on that:
“No weight cut and just doing what I always do and keep the same energy during fight week.
“I mean I think it’s silly to add more muscle for this contest when my strength has brought me to the dance.
“I trust my body and I trust my skills.”
Adding some weight would have been good for Adesanya, but he has fought powerful opponents in the past, like Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero, and has come out unscathed in all this.
Adesanya is one of the most relaxed fighters out there and his confidence never seems to lead to problems.
The Stylebender added that his fight camp wasn’t all that different from his previous ones. The undefeated UFC star certainly has the tools to defeat powerhouses but this is going to be an interesting clash.
Blachowicz has been on a bit of a rise and his win over Dominick Reyes was something to cherish. He became an overnight celebrity in Poland and would be keen to hold onto his belt.
Jon Jones is a target for Blachowicz but he cannot take his eyes off Adesanya. The Middleweight champion is hailed as one of the greatest MMA stars ever, and a win over Blachowicz on Saturday will add more weight to that debate.
