Israel Adesanya seemed pleased with Robert Whittaker defeating Kelvin Gastelum
Robert ‘The Reaper’ Whittaker showed just why he is one of the best in the UFC with a great win over Kelvin Gastelum.
Whittaker was to take on Paulo Costa in this fight but the Brazilian pulled out due to illness. Gastelum took up the call on short notice but it might have been too much of work.
Whittaker dominated his rival from the first seconds and picked up a dominant unanimous win in the end. The Reaper could have finished the fight early but kept taking Gastelum down. There was nothing that Gastelum could do and this was an incredible performance from the Australian.
Whittaker is a former UFC Middleweight champion but hasn’t had his rematch for the title yet. He lost the title to Israel Adesanya but took his time to get back to his best.
Whittaker is now on a three-fight win streak and it seems he could get a title shot next. Adesanya was watching the fight and had some words for The Reaper too.
Robert Whittaker wants the title from Israel Adesanya
The Reaper then brought up that he would want to fight Adesanya in September in Australia as he spoke with Michael Bisping.
This would be quite a fight and Whittaker even responded to the first tweet from Adesanya. The Australian joked that Adesanya had the right to trash talk since he won, but then claimed he had some tricks that Izzy didn’t know about.
Adesanya also responded to this and made a bit of a joke about Whittaker, and it will be interesting to see what the UFC does about the Middleweight division.
Marvin Vettori was in the stands to support his teammate Gastelum. The Italian Dream has brought up his title ambitions and his only loss in the UFC has been against Adesanya as well.
The UFC has some big calls to make over who Izzy fights next. Adesanya lost his last fight but that was for the UFC Light Heavyweight gold.
Adesanya is still undefeated in the Middleweight division but there are a couple of stars keen on getting the gold.
