Israel Adesanya vs Jon Jones fight hasn’t ‘fizzled away’
Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya hate each other. The two were embroiled in a massive social media feud even before ‘Izzy’ took the step up to 205.
The Nigerian-born Kiwi never once responded to fighting Jones at light heavyweight and only entered the weight class when Jones himself announced his decision to enter the heavyweight division.
That prompted many to think that Izzy is scared of taking on Jones. But Adesanya’s UFC 259 title fight against Jan Blachowicz was seen as a bridge to the fight against Jones.
The middleweight champion lost to Jan, prompting reactions from Jones himself that he could have easily beaten Adesanya had the two ever met inside the octagon.
The loss to the Pole, however, put a dent in any chance of Izzy taking on Jones. But Izzy’s coach, Eugene Bareman, thinks that the fight can never ‘fizzle out’ as he shared his views on Submission Radio.
Bareman revealed that the decision to fight had nothing to do with Jones, contrary to popular belief. He then mentioned that the fight with Jones is not off.
Calling ‘Bones’ a businessman, the kickboxing coach gave his views on the possibility of this super-fight happening in the future.
[The] fight hasn’t fizzled away… Jon Jones is a businessman. Jon Jones understands how the pay-per-view market works. And he understands where the money is, and that’s why this fight doesn’t fizzle away; He’s probably been on social media and done all the antics that he usually does but at the end of the day, facts are the facts, the fight doesn’t fizzle out because they are the biggest stars in the sport.”
For MMA fans, that’s great news. But will it come so soon? That is highly unlikely. Adesanya will most likely not have a title fight at 205 again after a big loss to Jan.
Bones is primed to fight the winner of Stipe Miocic vs Francis Ngannou 2 at UFC 260. So that is a sequence that will not die out so quickly. But if the stars align, then maybe both of them could take on each other. And that will most likely happen at 205 lbs.
