Jake Paul took another shot at Conor McGregor and brought up the Irishman’s legacy too

Ben Askren vs Jake Paul takes in April 2021 but the YouTuber turned boxer still has Conor McGregor on his mind.

Paul had called out McGregor and a host of other MMA stars after his shock win over Nate Robinson. The YouTuber had knocked out Robinson, a seasoned NBA star, but there was more on his mind.

Paul has been on a rampage amidst calling several people out and finally got an MMA name to fight.

Askren might have been inactive from the MMA circuit but it came as a bit of a surprise he accepted Paul’s offer to fight.

This will be a boxing match in April but Paul hit out at McGregor again. Paul was speaking to ES News (h/t Mirror) and brought up a recent McGregor loss.

The Irishman was knocked down by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 and Paul had a swipe at McGregor:

“That’s the worst loss I think I’ve ever seen in the UFC.

“From like a status perspective, like, it almost ruined his legacy.

Paul also brought up the third fight between the two UFC stars and claimed a loss for McGregor would have huge ramifications:

“Obviously, they’re probably going to have a trilogy fight. But if he loses that trilogy fight in the same way, Conor McGregor’s legacy is over.”

Conor McGregor first needs to win in his own sport

Paul also lashed into McGregor regarding his performances in the UFC. There were talks of a future fight between Paul and McGregor. However, the YouTuber didn’t see that happening since the Irishman was struggling in his own sport:

“At this point, the Jake Paul – Conor McGregor fight isn’t even as exciting because he can’t even win at his own sport.”

Paul went on to say that this would still be a big fight and he was keen on having it, but only once McGregor started winning his own battles too.

However, there still is a lot of respect for McGregor from Paul. Despite the trash talking, Paul explained why he had a ton of respect for the Irishman:

“I respect what he’s built, I respect who he is. And he changed the game for every fighter in the future.”

Paul vs McGregor could take place should the YouTuber beat Askren. There is a lot riding on this fight and many UFC stars would be peeved if Askren lost.

McGregor also has Poirier on his mind and it will be interesting to see how the third fight would go when the pair meet.
