Ben Askren says he wants to fight Jake Paul in March
Former UFC welterweight star Ben Askren took to his Twitter account on Wednesday to accept a fight against Jake Paul.
‘Funky’ says that he accepts the invitation and wants a bout on March 28, next year. Askren retired in November 2019 after 2 consecutive losses, with the last one being to Damien Maia.
Askren is rumored to face Jake Paul in a boxing match. While Askren has never been known for his boxing prowess, Paul is a newbie to the boxing scene.
The YouTuber tried his best to land a fight against Conor McGregor, which obviously did not bear any fruit.
Instead, he has reportedly lined up a string of MMA fighters in the coming year.
ESPN journalist Ariel Helwani shared Askren’s tweet and mentioned that the fight is not officially confirmed anywhere, but mentioned that the two stars in question are willing to fight each other.
Earlier, Chael Sonnen said that after the fight against Askren, Paul has another MMA star lined up.
Chael Sonnen’s tweet mentions that it’s ‘Ben then Dillon’. The American YouTuber is seemingly lined up to face jiu-jitsu specialist Dillon Danis after his fight against Askren.
Alongside the American Bellator fighter, the aforementioned tweet by Ariel Helwani also states that former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is also one of the MMA fighters Jake Paul can box in the ring.
The 41-year-old kickboxing ace would definitely be the toughest opponent (at least on paper) that Jake Paul would have faced till now.
While none of these fights is officially confirmed, the eagerness on the part of Paul’s opponents to make the big-money fights happen leads us to believe that we can expect an official announcement soon.
