“Dana should cough up the money” – Jake Shields feels Jon Jones deserves to be paid the amount he demands

Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou has been all the rage in the heavyweight division for quite a while

Jon Jones is undoubtedly one of the greatest mixed martial artists to ever grace the Octagon. The light-heavyweight GOAT relinquished his LHW title last August, in a bid to move to the heavyweight division.

He did so on the 15th of August, 2020, and ever since then he hasn’t featured even in a single fight. That is a whopping 16 months without a fight (including 6 months prior to August).

He was expected to face newly-crowned heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou, earlier this year; but a payment negotiation failure with UFC President Dana White, has seen the chance go to Derrick Lewis instead.

However, a lot of fighters have voiced out in support of Jones, that he should be paid the amount he demands.

And, Ngannou for his part, also seems to be more interested in fighting Jones and not Derrick Lewis.

More recently, veteran mixed martial artist Jake Shields weighed-in on the Jon Jones- Francis Ngannou scenario.

In the recent episode of the Schmozone podcast, Shields claimed that both the fighters should be paid the amount they deserve, while also bringing up the recent fight purses of Floyd Mayweather and Jake Paul.

He was quoted as saying:

“Dana [White] should just cough up the money and pay him. Jon Jones deserves the money, Francis [Ngannou] deserves to get paid. If Mayweather can make a $100 million, and Jake Paul can make $20 million, they [Ngannou and Jones] should probably make $15 million apiece and get that fight together.”

Jon Jones shares an insane training video

Despite having not entered the Octagon for quite a long time, Jones has been putting in the hard yards.

He recently posted a video on Instagram which showed him running on a treadmill set at 20mph. He also shared his current weight – 255lbs.

The caption read:

“I’ll be 34 next month! Starting to feel like a fine wine, only getting better with age.”
