Jan Blachowicz reveals if he thinks Khabib Nurmagomedov is the MMA GOAT
This is one debate which, no matter the sport, would continue to divide fans. The GOAT of MMA is hard to define. Everyone has their own criteria.
But one of the most common answers to that question would be Khabib Nurmagomedov. And why not? He is undefeated in his MMA career.
The Russian went 29-0 during his active years and retired after defending his UFC lightweight belt for the 3rd time in a row. That surely qualifies you to be in the conversation to be the GOAT.
And on Kumite TV on YouTube, UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz was asked where he stood on ‘The Eagle’ being the greatest of all time in MMA.
He did not say the GOAT, but he definitely thinks he is in that conversation.
“For sure top 5. For sure top 5, for me. But I’m not expert, I’m just a fighter.”
Chael Sonnen recently stated that to be the GOAT, you have to have success in at least two weight classes in the modern era.
That seems to be an increasingly common criteria for defining the greatest of all time in the sport now. Khabib did fight at welterweight, but not during his time in UFC.
In that regard, Georges St-Pierre is one name that would come to mind. The Canadian legend was involved in 12 title fights and won belts in two divisions.
Nevertheless, it is pointless to discuss it if there is no uniform criteria. The answer will always tend to have a subjective element to it. For some, a 29-0 record would be what makes a fighter the GOAT.
For others, someone like Jon Jones who has won 14 title fights would the greatest. It all depends on who is asking, and who is answering.
