UFC 259 sees Israel Adesanya take on Jan Blachowicz for the Light Heavyweight title
UFC 259 has a stacked card with Israel Adesanya trying to become a double champion as he takes on Jan Blachowicz.
This fight is for the UFC Light Heavyweight title and would be Blachowicz’s first title defence. The 37-year-old won his first UFC title by defeating Dominick Reyes at UFC 253.
Blachowicz became the first male Polish UFC champion and was met with a lot of fanfare back home. Adesanya, for his part, is 20-0 in his MMA career and the current Middleweight Champion. The Kiwi would be moving up a weight class to take on Blachowicz and that should be an interesting battle.
The Polish star was speaking on Michael Bisping’s podcast and the former UFC champion believed that Blachowicz had more than a chance of defeating Adesanya.
Blachowicz has a habit of visualizing his fights and had a shock one ahead of the Adesanya battle too:
“When I do my visualization training, I see that I knock him out in the second round, my left kick on the head.”
Adesanya has a lot of tricks up his sleeve but the Pole was convinced of his own skill set as well:
“I know how to wrestle, I know how to do jiu jitsu on the ground, so I am going to be ready for everything and I use all my tools to win the fight.”
Bisping was a little impressed by Blachowicz’s prediction for UFC 259. The former champion then asked if the Pole’s visualizations had worked in the past and surprisingly, it did.
Blachowicz confirmed that he got the prediction right for three of his past fights, including the title clash against Reyes:
“Yeah with [Luke] Rockhold, it was 100%. I told left hand, second round.
“With Dominick Reyes, it was going to be in the third round, not second and also I think I do correctly with Corey Anderson.”
While Blachowicz is talking the talk, he is coming into this fight as the underdog. Even though he has fought in the Light Heavyweight division more than Adesanya, Blachowicz isn’t the favourite to retain the title.
That doesn’t harm Blachowicz at all. The Pole has made it a habit of defying the odds and he will be keen on doing that at UFC 259.
Blachowicz also told a story of how he helped one person win $50,000. The Pole was the underdog in a fight, the person bet on him and ended up winning a huge amount.
