Michael Chiesa got the win over Neil Magny and UFC champ Jan Blachowicz was quick to praise the winner

UFC Fight Island 8 had a huge main event between Neil Magny and Michael Chiesa. Both stars came in with a three-fight win streak but it was Chiesa that got the decision in his favour.

Maverick put on quite a show in the main event and caught the attention of many. One of them was UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.

Blachowicz hasn’t been in action since winning the title but he has kept a close eye on the fights. He praised Maverick for the performance and was happy that the UFC event was at a more suitable time for European audiences.

This Fight Island clash took place much earlier in the day and it allowed fans from across the world to see the fight in a better time.

However, things will change for UFC 257 which takes place in the regular timeslots that most events happen.

Blachowicz wasn’t the only UFC name happy with this performance as Rafael dos Anjos also praised Chiesa for the win.

Ready for a title shot?

While Chiesa has remained impressive for a while it is to be seen if he gets a title shot soon. The 33-year-old was ranked #8 in the Welterweight rankings but should move up after the win.

Blachowicz, for his part, is in a tough battle next. His first title defence is against one of the best MMA stars in the world, Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya is the current Middleweight UFC champion and is yet to lose a professional MMA fight in his career.

The Stylebender easily destroyed Paulo Costa in his last fight. However, moving up a weight class should be a challenge for him too.

Many stars have backed Adesanya to become the new champion. However, it will be interesting to see if the Polish power of Blachowicz can charge him to a win.
