UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz spoke about the prospect of facing Jon Jones in the future
Jan Blachowicz was with Michael Bisping on the Englishman’s Michael Bisping Podcast this week. He spoke about the Dominick Reyes fight at length.
And during that, he addressed his desire (or lack of it) to fight former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, in the future.
Blachowicz is a man who lives in the present, which was also evident when he talked about his fight with Israel Adesanya. And maintaining that tone, he said that he is not focused on the American right now.
“Of course, I would love to fight Jon Jones. But right now, I don’t think about him. I think about Israel Adesanya. Jon Jones is heavyweight, maybe in future I also go get to heavyweight and catch him there. We will see. But right now, he is not my problem, he is heavyweight guys’ problem.”
That looks highly unlikely. The two, of course, were primed to go up against one another when ‘Bones’ was the champion at 205 lbs.
That did not happen because Jones vacated the belt and took the step up to heavyweight. Blachowicz fought Dominick Reyes instead and won the vacant belt.
Jones returning to light heavyweight obviously remains a possibility. But it does not look like something that will happen in the coming months.
For Blachowicz, his primary focus would be to defend his belt against current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
The two go head-to-head for the light heavyweight belt on March 7th at UFC 259. ‘Izzy’ is yet to be defeated in his professional MMA career while this will be the Pole’s first defence of his belt.
