Jan Blachowicz feels he is currently in the twilight phase of his MMA career
2020 has been very kind to Jan Blachowicz. After stitching back to back victories against Chris Weidman and Jacare Souza in 2019, the Pole took on Corey Anderson in his first fight of 2020.
He knocked out Anderson with a devastating punch. Though he was ranked among the top 5 in the light-heavyweight division back then, little did he know that he would become the light-heavyweight champion that same year.
Thanks to LHW GOAT Jon Jones who vacated his title in a bid to move to the heavyweight division. Blachowicz grabbed the opportunity with both hands, as he knocked out the dangerous Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 to win the vacant light-heavyweight belt.
Since then, the 38-year old Pole has defended his title once, against Israel Adesanya at UFC 259, winning via. unanimous decision. He is now set to take on Glover Teixeira at UFC 266 on the 4th of September, this year.
Entering the twilight phase of his career, Blachowicz opened up on his future in a recent interview with Submission Radio.
Blachowicz revealed that he felt he had 5 fights left in his career:
“Maybe, I think I have got maybe 5 fights in my life, we will see.”
When further asked if it was in the light-heavyweight division alone, and if he would fancy a move to the heavyweight after that, Blachowicz said:
“We will see. Maybe the last two or three fights will be in heavyweight…Three to four years of fighting, and that’s it. Enjoy the life. Grow up with the son.”
Blachowicz will take on the 41-year old Glover Teixeira on the 4th of September at UFC 266. A win here would mark his second successful title defense.
However, a bigger threat awaits him if he manages to get past the ageing Brazilian. Jiri Prochazka– the number 2 ranked light-heavyweight has been lighting up the light-heavyweight division.
With just two wins since his UFC debut, the 28-year old Czech is already ranked number 2 in the light-heavyweight rankings.
Having not tasted defeat since 2015, Prochazka will be a tough nut to crack for the Super Pole.
