Javier Mendez shares a training session incident when Khabib Nurmagomedov tasked him with a bench press challenge.

Khabib officially retired from the sport of MMA last month.

The Eagle decided to hang up his gloves after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, since he felt that he wouldn’t be able to compete without his late father by the ringside. And, also that he had promised his mother that the Gaethje fight would be his last one.

With a record of 29-0 in his professional MMA career and 13 consecutive wins in the UFC, the Eagle landed. No one, not even Conor McGregor could solve the piece of puzzle that is, Khabib.

However, a large part of his success will have to be attributed to his coaches as well. Javier Mendez, the founder of American Kickboxing Academy was Khabib’s coach for the majority of his UFC career.

Mendez recently took to Instagram to share a hilarious incident from November 2019, on Instagram, when he was challenged by Khabib to bench press 20 reps of around 170lbs. Mendez was up for the challenge, and he did it in style.

This is what Mendez had to say about that incident:

“Funny day Nov 2019 when the Eagle challenged me and told me that no way I couldn’t do 20 reps Bench pressing 155lbs or 175lbs. Well, I was up for the challenge @khabib_nurmagomedov should have challenged me to sit-ups. As you can see I struggled a little to get off the Bench #coachcantsitup#coachchallenge
