Jenelius Crew claimed he was a UFC fighter after being arrested in connection with a San Antonio shooting
Florida authorities arrested Jenelius Crew in connection with a San Antonio shooting on June 12.
KTSA adds that the man was arrested on Thursday morning after eight people were shot outside a REBAR.
A bouncer at the REBAR did not allow Crew, who was with some friends, in as they were too drunk. However, Crew was upset over this and told the doorman that he was a UFC fighter (h/t KTSA):
“Don’t you know who I am? I’m a UFC fighter from California.”
He then returned to the scene with a rifle and shot eight people at the REBAR. Fortunately, all eight people survived the shooting.
Crew was staying in a hotel in Miami and was arrested by the authorities after their got a warrant on Wednesday.
No record of being a UFC fighter
It was surprising that Crew had suggested that he was a UFC fighter before the shooting. That would have led to a lot of problems for the promotion. However, a couple of outlets have confirmed that he isn’t related to the UFC.
MMA Junkie added that the 37-year-old Crews doesn’t have a record on Tapology’s database. They also claimed that there is no history of Crews ever fighting in the UFC.
MMA Fighting also revealed that there is no history of Crews in the UFC and he hasn’t even been a fighter on the roster.
This will come as some relief to Dana White who was concerned when the UFC was linked with the shooting a week back.
The president already has a lot of his plate with UFC 251 and Fight Island. His promotion has been hit with many stars wanting to leave due to pay issues too as Henry Cejudo left the company while Jon Jones and Jorge Masvidal have threatened to do so too.
