Jimmy Crute takes on Modestas Bukauskas at UFC Fight Island 6 at the weekend
The Schmo caught up with rising UFC star Jimmy Crute ahead of his Fight Island clash.
Crute is 11-1 in his MMA career and is 3-1 in his UFC career. The Australian garnered a lot of attention after a story broke out of him sleeping in a van during camps as he tried to stay focussed ahead of his battles.
The Schmo brought that up again but asked what Crute’s plan was should he get a win at the weekend.
Bukauskas is a tough competitor but Crute believed he could challenge for the title in a couple of years.
The Australian also claimed that he didn’t think he was going to be a champion but things changed as he started to perform well:
“When I first started I didn’t have any expectations of being a world champion or anything like that.
“I am giving myself two years now. I never really thought about it that I could do it but in the last eight months, I have taken a look at my goals and what I am capable of.
“Think I can be a world champion in two years, that is the goal and what I am trying to do.”
Crute added that he was willing to fight again next week.
Working hard to become the best
The Australian came undefeated in the UFC but his only loss so far was against Misha Cirkunov. Crute also claimed that hard work and that had brought him here:
“Hard work is No.1 thing. I am not scared to get in there and go to war.”
While Crute was confident of performing well at the weekend, he also spoke about Robert Whittaker facing Jared Cannonier at UFC 254.
Whittaker is keen on getting back into the Middleweight title scene, and Crute believed his fellow Aussie could spring a surprise:
“Rob is going to show why he is a superior MMA. People just think that Rob is just a striker but he can out grapple me sometimes, he is a fucking weapon at all aspects in MMA.”
