Jiri Prochazka was horrified after his nasty KO win over Dominick Reyes
The light-heavyweight spotlight is on Jiri Prochazka of the Czech Republic. The 28-year old has already taken the UFC by storm, despite having made only 2 appearances.
He was roped in by the UFC after being a huge success at Rizin Fighting Federation. He came into the UFC with a 10-fight win streak.
His first UFC fight was against Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 251, and, in only the second round Prochazka showed why he is the real deal, as a vicious punch from the Czech knocked out Oezdemir.
The win sent Prochazka shooting into the top 5 of the light-heavyweight rankings, and after almost a year he took on Dominick Reyes at UFC Vegas 25, which concluded last week.
Reyes wasn’t spared by the Czech’s brute force as well, as he succumbed to a wild spinning back elbow in the second round. Reyes lay motionless for quite a while, before being helped by the officials to make him sit on the mini chair.
Prochazka spoke about his knockout in the recent episode of Helwani’s MMA Show. This was the first time he was appearing in Ariel Helwani’s show.
The 28-year old revealed that he felt horrible after brutalizing Reyes like that.
Prochazka said:
“It was horrible. It was bad for me to watch it. But that’s the way how all the fighters win the fights – to kill the opponent. But there is nothing personal – just pure art. I’m taking that as an art, and that’s it.”
KO win over Dominick Reyes propels Jiri Prochazka to number 2 in the rankings
After just two fights and 10 months with the UFC, Prochazka has already broken into the top 5 of the light-heavyweight rankings.
After his victory against Reyes, he moved to number 2 in the rankings, with only Glover Teixeira and champ Jan Blachowicz ahead of him.
Talks about Blachowicz vs Prochazka have been rife over the past few days after Blachowicz tweeted that he would like to take on the Czech soon.
They even had a recent exchange on Twitter, with Prochazka mentioning that he would be waiting for Blachowicz once the Pole sees off Teixeira at UFC 266.
