Jiri Prochazka could take on Jan Blachowicz for the UFC title if he keeps on winning
Ever since he was signed by UFC, Jiri Prochazka has already become a big name in the UFC light heavyweight division.
He has only fought once in the promotion so far. But that round 2 KO win against Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 251 really made everyone take notice.
He is already #5 in the light heavyweight rankings and takes on #3 Dominick Reyes at UFC on ESPN 23. And if he wins here, talks of a title fight would not be far-fetched.
After all, Michael Chandler will fight Charles Oliveira for the UFC lightweight after just winning one fight in the promotion.
So, granted Jan Blachowicz beats Glover Teixeira in their title bout at UFC 266 in September, maybe Prochazka can be next for him. But the Czech fighter is not really think about it; not yet, at least.
Prochazka (27-3-1) was with The Schmo earlier this week and was asked if was targeting a title shot after his fight against Reyes.
And he responded by saying that his focus, at the moment, lies on his fight against Reyes. So, maybe after his fight this weekend, he can start thinking about becoming the #1 contender.
“That’s so early for this question because I’m focused just for this fight and after that fight, I don’t care if the title fight will be after one or two fights. Doesn’t matter.”
He says that for him, enjoying the moments inside the cage is what matters for him. And he certainly would be enjoying those moments a lot more if he can beat Reyes.
As for a title shot, two wins against two genuinely good light heavyweights could be enough to get him inside the cage with Blachowicz (or Teixeira) for the belt at 205.
