Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov are some of the best in business
Ever since Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the sport of MMA in October last year, the GOAT debate was thrown wide open.
While some claimed that Khabib is undoubtedly the GOAT since he retired with a clean record of 29 wins and no losses, a few argued that he did not feature in as many title fights as greats like Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones.
Jones himself presented his case for the GOAT debate, explaining how he has defended his title 11 times while Khabib has done it only thrice.
In a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience featuring comedian Yannis Pappas, Rogan weighed in on the GOAT debate. He first touched upon how Khabib, who might be the greatest of all time “doesn’t have the accolades that Jon Jones has.”
Rogan said:
“Khabib chokes everybody out. He is like one of the greatest, no, if not the greatest. There’s a real argument that Khabib’s the greatest of all time. And again doesn’t have the accolades that Jon Jones has. And I know Jon Jones has one loss in his record but it’s a bull sh*t loss. It’s a disqualification in a fight with Matt Hamill, where he was destroying him. So you can make the argument that Jon Jones is undefeated and I think you should make that argument, because nobody actually defeated him. Even though he has a loss on his record, no one beat him. “
Joe Rogan leans on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s side
Rogan went on comparing the fights of both the greats. He acknowledged the fact that no one ever came close to defeating Khabib, while Jones has had a few scrape-through victories over fighters like Thiago Santos, Dominick Reyes.
JR then used Khabib’s famous catchphrase ‘smesh’ before going on to reveal his favourite quote of the Dagestani.
“Khabib is undefeated, he retired at 29-0 and dominated everybody, no one was even close. Jon Jones had a couple of split decisions, The Reyes fight was f*cking close, so was the Thiago Santos fight fu*king close, close fights. There is no close fight in Khabib’s history, there’s no close fights. Everybody gets fu*king mauled, everybody smesh, smesh, send location. My favourite quote of him is with Conor McGregor – ‘I want to change his face’. Khabib was the fu*ing man, he was the fuc*ing man.”
Khabib has never appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience. But, he has plans of appearing as a guest one day – once his English skills improve.
