Jolie Poirier watched her husband lose at UFC 291 but he might be winning at other things
Dustin Poirier vs Justin Gaethje was the main event for UFC 291. The BMF title was also on the line as the pair met for the second time in the UFC.
Poirier had a win over Gaethje from their previous meeting, and this fight delivered. However, it didn’t go the way Poirier would have wanted. The Diamond was on the end of a vicious head kick from Gaethje in the second round.
That completely knocked him out, and it led to Gaethje being crowned the new BMF Champion. There were some rumours that the person losing this fight would retire. Poirier spoke about his next plans after the fight and scuffed any talk of him not wanting to fight.
However, there was a great exchange during the interview. He claimed to have won in life and even added that this wasn’t “a funeral” as he was happy with a lot of things, especially family.
Poirier’s wife, Jolie, was quick to react to this heartfelt moment. Jolie Poirier posted a couple of diamonds in her Tweet, and to be truthful, Dustin does seem to be a real diamond.
Poirier also had some great words for his rival after the loss. The pair did have a heartfelt exchange after UFC 291, and Poirier posted a comment about the kick on Twitter.
The Diamond added that this was a “beautiful” set-up to the kick.
This wasn’t the first time a head kick like this was used in recent months. Leon Edwards won the UFC Welterweight title from Kamaru Usman using the same technique, and even the UFC shared this time and again after Gaethje’s kick.
It is to be seen what is next for Poirier after the loss. He will be taking some time off to deal with this, but there is no doubt the will come back stronger than ever.
