Jon Jones’ switch to the heavyweight division last year hasn’t yet seen the light of the day
It has been more than 9 months since Jones moved to the heavyweight division. He hardly had any trouble dispatching his opponents in the light-heavyweight division, and hence decided to step up to face bigger challenges.
But ever since his move to the HW, he hasn’t fought even once. In fact he hasn’t even been matched with an opponent.
He was actually expected to face Francis Ngannou, but it fell through due to a payment dispute with UFC President Dana White. Similarly, a fight with Miocic also didn’t materialize, since Jones himself wasn’t willing to face the former HW champ.
Jones now feels that he might go another full year without fighting. In a recent Twitter interaction with fans, Jones claimed that he would always be looking on the bright side despite facing setbacks.
“Yes, I got a feeling you guys will still be around. The sport should be bigger than ever by then…Always looking on the bright side.”
Instead of catching up with the UFC President Dana White, who has massive respect towards Jon Jones; Jones just keeps lamenting about being refused a big fight purse.
Things might turn out fine if he manages to have a personal face to face chat with White and strike a proper deal.
Doing so, a match against Ngannou would very well be on the cards, and Jones would get his wish of fighting someone great like Ngannou, granted.
However, it is up to the LHW GOAT. The ball is in his court right now, since White recently revealed in an interview with TMZ Sports that the UFC would be moving forward without Jones.
