Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones believes that his time at 205 lbs. is over and he is more hungry than ever for his heavyweight debut
Well-received as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, Jon Jones has stated that he is waiting with bated breath for his heavyweight debut.
Jon Jones last fought at UFC 247 back in February 2020 against Dominick Reyes. Although he won the bout, it was a particularly lacklustre performance by Jones standards, who’s known to completely dismantle his opponents.
The youngest champion in the UFC has defended his belt successfully 11 times, although it looked like he lacked motivation during some of his last outings. Jones has confirmed on several occasions that his life and career needs a new purpose, and a move to heavyweight is the likely outcome.
He recently put out a tweet saying that his time at light heavyweight is done & dusted, and he is itching to make a comeback soon. He said, ‘ My candle for light heavyweight blew out, it showed in my last fight, instead of being discouraged by a bad performance, I’m stoked about this new season. New energy. My time at LWH was over, I see that more clear today than ever’
Even the boss-man Dana White had stated that he wants to see Jon Jones return this year, as the fans wait patiently to welcome back their beloved fighter.
Jon Jones hasn’t fought since his UFC 247 victory against Dominick Reyes back in February 2020. Since then he has hinted at a move to heavyweight, had his share of legal trouble outside the octagon and complained about the UFC’s pay structure.
Former UFC double champion Hendry Cejudo has been helping Jones prepare for his heavyweight debut and according to the ‘Triple C’, Jones is now readier than ever.
He spoke about Jones on ‘The Schmzozone Podcast’ and said, “You guys will see Jon Jones this year. He’s anxious to fight, he’s hungry man. He needed this time off, he needed this time out to get his mind right, to let his body recover, to enjoy [with] his family. He needed all this, you know what I’m saying?”
