Jon Jones explains why he doesn’t want to fight Stipe Miocic after Dana White’s comments

Dana White recently opened up on a possible fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic

Jones is yet to make his heavyweight debut, after moving up to the HW division, almost 9 months ago.

He was indeed matched up with the heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou after the Cameroonian won the HW belt at UFC 260. But a payment dispute with the bossman Dana White meant that the negotiations had to be stalled.

The fight has currently gone to the hands of number 2 ranked heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis, who is expected to face Ngannou in a rematch.

In the wake of this, White appeared in an interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN and claimed that he might probably set up a match between Jones and Stipe Miocic, to mark Jones’ HW debut.

This didn’t sit well with Jones, as he posted a couple of tweets, vehemently refusing to take on Miocic on his HW debut. The tweets were soon deleted by Jones.

Jones had tweeted:

“I’m not here to fight Stipe but I will defend my belt against him no problem. I’m looking for the biggest draw and I’m willing to wait. 33 years old in a better athlete right now than I’ve ever been before…I’m just going to keep training my ass off.”

He had also replied to a fan who asked why he wouldn’t fight Stipe. Jones had written:

“I’m sick of hearing the same shit, you’re not a big enough star, you don’t bring enough pay-per-view. I’m ready to fight fights that will bring in the pay-per-view. The world wants to see some black on black crime right now and I’m ready to give them lol.”

Jon Jones shares update on a new management team

Jones and First Round Management recently parted ways after almost 11 years. They had been together even before Jones became the youngest light-heavyweight champion.

A man like Jones, would definitely need a proper management team, and hence he is currently in the hunt for one.

He replied to a fan on Twitter stating that he has a huge week coming up, as he set to meet some bigwigs.

Jones wrote:

“The good news is I have two really big meetings with some awesome attorneys and sports agents next week. Feel like my professionalism is about to go up a notch.”
