Jon Jones has got a truckload of people from the MMA community talking as he prepares for his HW debut
Jon Jones is the name on almost everybody’s lips right now. The light-heavyweight king relinquished his LHW belt last August in a bid to move to the heavyweight division.
He did so and moved to the HW division, but the American is yet to make his debut, and hasn’t fought in more than 15 months.
Jones is largely tipped to face newly crowned heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou on debut.
In fact, the fight would have been announced by now, had it not been for the payment dispute between Jones and UFC President Dana White.
Keeping those things aside, Jones has been actively training for his adventure with the world’s strongest men, and his recent training videos portray his new incredible strength and speed.
But there have been questions about his new ‘yoked and beefed-up’ physique affecting his speed.
Gregory Jackson, co-founder of Jackson Wink MMA Academy addressed this in a recent interview with The Schmo. Jackson claimed that the weight Jones has put on doesn’t seem to affect his speed at all.
“The thing about Jon is that, it doesn’t seem to affect him at all. I don’t know why. He seems almost faster at heavyweight, maybe it’s the additional muscle propelling the speed of his movements. Yeah, he looks great!”
Jon Jones goes hard in the gym. His fitness game during training camps and fight weeks is unparalleled.
And in the recent list of fittest 50 athletes of 2021, published by Sports Illustrated, Jones was the only UFC fighter in the list. It was mainly comprised of Basketballers and Footballers.
Jones came in at a staggering number 5 in the list, just ahead of Portuguese footballing great Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bones will be hoping his superior fitness game helps him inside the octagon as well, when he takes on the killing machine, Francis Ngannou.
