UFC heavyweight Jon Jones and AEW star Jake Hager were expected to square off in a grappling match in December
UFC Heavyweight Jon Jones hit out at AEW star Jake Hager for allegedly turning down a grappling match. The two were expected to face off sometime in December.
Jones, unhappy with Hager turning down the match, took to Twitter to hit out at the All-American claiming that he had missed out on an opportunity of a lifetime with the ‘GOAT.”
His Tweet read:
“You can’t gloat about turning down a grappling match with the goat. You had the opportunity of a lifetime, now you’re doing interviews about what you would’ve done.”
Hager, for his part, wasn’t particularly pleased with Jones tweeting the news of their match out too early. He also stated that the match was still in the works for January, next year.
Here is what Hager had to say:
“He jumped the gun early on tweeting it out before we had any details. As far as I know, it’s still in the works, maybe January 9th now. We’ll see. But I think it’s very cool that he wanted to do that with me.” [via Wrestling Headlines]
Will we see Jon Jones in the UFC in 2022?
It’s been nearly two years since Jon Jones stepped inside the Octagon. The light-heavyweight great last faced Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February 2020.
A few months after beating Reyes, Jones relinquished his light-heavyweight belt in a bid to conquer the heavyweight division.
Since then, ‘Bones’ has been packing on the muscle and training his socks off despite personal setbacks and whatnot. With almost a two-year hiatus, one can expect Jones to be back inside the Octagon in 2022.
