Jon Jones has been actively gearing up for his heavyweight debut
Light-heavyweight GOAT Jon Jones renounced his LHW title last August, in a bid to move to the heavyweight division. Although Bones hasn’t made his debut even 9 months since his move, he has been actively packing on the muscle, and training like a mad man.
Jones was largely tipped to face newly-crowned heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but a minor online tussle with the bossman Dana White, has resulted in the contest being shelved.
But that has not deterred Jones. He has been training like never before, posting regular updates on Instagram. It is safe to say that he has added almost 50 pounds to his frame.
More recently, Jones posted a photo on Instagram, standing alongside his training partners, looking jacked and bulked out of his skin.
He captioned the post:
“If you’re the baddest motherf*cker in the room, you’re probably not training with the right people.”
With a ton of doubts over Jones’ first opponent in the HW division, UFC President Dana White hinted that ‘Bony’ might fight consensus UFC HW GOAT Stipe Miocic.
But Jones wasn’t willing to fight Miocic, who recently got beat up badly by Ngannou at UFC 260. He made his intentions clear in a series of now-deleted tweets that he wouldn’t face ‘the Cleveland’s finest’ on debut.
Jon had written:
“I’m not here to fight Stipe but I will defend my belt against him no problem. I’m looking for the biggest draw and I’m willing to wait. 33 years old in a better athlete right now than I’ve ever been before…I’m just going to keep training my ass off.”
He sent a strong message that he was sick of hearing people accusing him of not taking up big and challenging fights.
In another deleted tweet, Jon wrote:
“I’m sick of hearing the same shit, you’re not a big enough star, you don’t bring enough pay-per-view. I’m ready to fight fights that will bring in the pay-per-view. The world wants to see some black on black crime right now and I’m ready to give them lol.”
