Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler at UFC 268 was an absolute classic

Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler at UFC 268 will go down in history as one of the greatest lightweight fights in modern UFC history.

The fiery contest saw both the Americans go back and forth for three rounds. It was an absolute slugfest right from the first minute and set the undertone for the next fights in the main card.

Gaethje ended up winning via. unanimous decision, scoring 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27, on the three judges’ scorecards.

Both the fighters walked home with the Fight of the Night bonus.

UFC heavyweight Jon Jones was left in awe on witnessing the Gaethje-Chandler fireworks. ‘Bones’ wanted to see both the fighters square off once again, but this time for five rounds.

Taking to Twitter, Jon Jones wrote:

“I’m gonna need to see Michael and Justin fight for five rounds.”

Daniel Cormier says Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler is certified Fight of the Year contender

Jon Jones’ old rival Daniel Cormier, who watched the fight from close proximity (from the commentary booth) called the fight a “Fight of the Year Contender.”

Taking to Twitter, Cormier wrote:

“That was one of the craziest fights I’ve seen in a long time. Someone asked if this had potential to be fight of the year. I say it’s on a very short list. Great job men @Justin_Gaethje and @MikeChandlerMMA.”

With that win, Gaethje might be next in line to face the winner of the lightweight title fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier. The fight takes place at UFC 269 in December.
