Jon Jones was left fuming after UFC President Dana White brought out talks of the heavyweight wanting $30 million for his next fight.
Jones relinquished his light-heavyweight title last August in a bid to move to the heavyweight division. Bones, however, hasn’t made his heavyweight debut yet. In fact, he hasn’t even been booked for a fight in the heavyweight division.
But Jones weighs at least 50 pounds more than he used to weigh last year. He has actively been packing on the muscle and has been training rigorously to succeed in the division comprised of the world’s strongest men.
Since Jon Jones hadn’t fought in a long time, UFC President Dana White confirmed last month that his next fight would be against the winner of the rematch between Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic at UFC 260.
Ngannou beat Miocic at UFC 260 and clinched the heavyweight belt. And, no sooner did Ngannou beat Miocic, than talks of a fight between Jones and Ngannou began.
What followed then was a Twitter war between Jones and White, as Jones demanded a huge sum of money to fight Ngannou.
With Jones refusing to accept a smaller paycheck, White recently revealed in the Bill Simmons Podcast that he would be offering the title fight to Derrick Lewis, instead of Jones. Stating the reason for the same, White said that Jones wanted a mind-boggling $30 million, going on to add that ‘that is never how things work in the fight business’.
Jones was left enraged with White revealing in a podcast viewed by millions that he had wanted $30 million. He took to Twitter, refuting White’s claims that he had wanted that exorbitant amount.
Bones tweeted:
“I never discussed wanting 30 million with you or Hunter @danawhite just wondering where you heard that number? Is someone speaking with you on my behalf or…”
Derrick Lewis might be in the twilight of his career. But that hasn’t affected the ‘Black Beast’ one bit. He is currently on a four-match win streak, and his last KO win over Curtis Blaydes in February this year, proved how dangerous he can be.
With four wins on the trot, Lewis is currently ranked number 2 in the heavyweight division. It is worthy to be noted that Lewis defeated Ngannou via. unanimous decision at UFC 226. Lewis had also hinted at having a one last go at the title.
If a fight between Ngannou and Jones falls through; if there is someone who deserves to fight the ‘Predator’, it has to be ‘The Black Beast’.
