Jon Jones sided with Khabib Nurmagomedov after Conor McGregor shared his GOAT thread
UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones also waded into the GOAT thread after Conor McGregor started it.
McGregor posted on Twitter a large thread suggesting why he was the GOAT thanks to his finishes in different classes and the fact he was a two-division UFC Champion.
GOAT THREAD.
The array of finishes, across 2 divisions, with champion status in 1, Anderson Silva is No.1 MMA GOAT.
My array of finishes, across 3 divisions, with champion status in 2, I’m No.2. If not tied 1.
However still active, No.1 is fully secured by career end. And easily.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) May 23, 2020
The Irishman is one of the biggest draws in combat sports, but he hasn’t been all that great since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the Lightweight title.
There is a huge rivalry between Khabib and McGregor and the Russian hit out at Conor’s suggestions.
Khabib reminded McGregor about tapping out to the Russian and the fact he had lost in several divisions. The Russian also named three other big names, including Jones, that had done more in the Octagon that McGregor:
“you tapped out in featherweight , you tapped out in lightweight and you tapped in welterweight , you never defended title in the UFC or Cage Warriors , you gave up more than GSP , Spider and Bones all together. you greatest @ufc fighter in twitter history.”
Jones also shared his thoughts on the debate and sided with Khabib and the fans:
“Like I said I’ll let the fans do the debating for me, thanks Khabib”
The GOAT debate
Naming the greatest UFC fighter isn’t easy given the different divisions in play. Jones is regarded as the greatest MMA stars and the best pound for pound fighter.
Khabib is yet to be defeated in his MMA career and has lost just one round so far too. Further, GSP (Georges St-Pierre) is believed to be one of the best ever, though he is retired.
McGregor is also in the debate for being called the GOAT, and if picks up a third division title, he would give Jones and Khabib a run for their money.
This debate will rage on for a while, but one thing is certain, the rivalry between Khabib and McGregor will never die.
