Jan Blachowicz became the light-heavyweight (now ex) after Jon Jones vacated the title in mid-2020

Jon Jones relinquished his light-heavyweight belt in 2020 in a bid to pursue bigger and greater challenges.

He announced that he was moving to the heavyweight division – he is yet to compete in the HW division.

Following Jones vacating the LHW belt, Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes fought for the title at UFC 253 in September 2020.

Blachowicz knocked Reyes out in the second round to become the new LHW champ.

At the post-fight interview, Blachowicz called out Jones.

However, Jones gave no heed to that. He was concentrating on his move up to the heavyweight division.

A few months later Jones’ transformation photos began doing the rounds, all but confirming his determination to succeed in the heavyweight division.

Jon Jones says Jan Blachowicz was wrong

Jon Jones answered and replied to several fan tweets recently. When told by a fan that he was nowhere to be seen since Blachowicz won the LHW title, Jones stated that his waiting out strategy actually worked.

Blachowicz, after winning the title at UFC 253, went on to defend it only once (against Israel Adesanya at UFC 259). He then lost his belt to a 42-year old Glover Teixeira at UFC 267.

In regards to this, Jones tweeted:

“I was terrified of Jan according to Jan. Had to wait him out, strategy worked i guess.”

It is not clear when Jones will be making his heavyweight debut.
