Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou is the most talked about bout right now in the UFC’s heavyweight division
Francis Ngannou became the heavyweight champ at UFC 260 after destroying Stipe Miocic. Ever since his victory, a fight against heavyweight newcomer and light-heavyweight GOAT Jon Jones has been on the cards.
A payment dispute with UFC President Dana White has caused the bout to be shelved, with the title shot opportunity going to the hands of Derrick Lewis.
In a recent roadside interview with TMZ Sports, Ngannou claimed that he would like to face Jones next, and not Lewis.
‘The Predator’ was quoted as saying:
“I want Jon Jones…Oh definitely.”
Following Ngannou’s interview, Jones took to Twitter to send a stern warning to the Cameroonian:
“Remember you’re not a champ until you defend that title. @francis_ngannou be careful what you wish for.”
This has been a regular happening of late in the heavyweight scene. Ngannou and Jones aiming barbs at each other, but the fight never coming to fruition.
In the same interview with TMZ Sports yesterday, Ngannou refused to give props to Jones sizing up. However, he did acknowledge his talent and skillset.
Ngannou was quoted as saying:
“I know he’s very skilled, very talented, I respect that. But we are both men and we’re gonna find out.”
Going by the look of things, the only thing that is currently preventing a fight between Jones and Ngannou is the payment dispute.
If Jones personally catches up with UFC President Dana White, and manages to resolve the issue, a fight will be on the cards very soon.
The ball is in the light-heavyweight GOAT’s court right now.
