Kamaru Usman was excellent in his win over Gilbert Burns at UFC 258 and Jon Jones had some glowing praise for the Nigerian Nightmare
UFC 258 was expected to be a close fight between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns.
Usman and Burns were teammates but things were not going to be friendly in the main event. Burns was keen on winning the Welterweight title from Usman and he almost got a quick win after a huge punch.
However, Usman recovered well from an early hit and dominated his rival from then on. He got the win in the third round and it was an emotional moment for all involved. Usman and Burns then embraced after the clash but the Nigerian Nightmare was breaking some records with this win.
This was Usman’s 13th consecutive UFC win and he has never lost a fight in the promotion. He also beat a record held by Georges St-Pierre and won his 13th consecutive Welterweight fight, one more than GSP.
Jon Jones, a UFC and MMA legend, was one of the fight to congratulate Usman. Bones is also on 13 wins and welcomed Usman to the club:
The other names on the list are Khabib Nurmagomedov, Demetrious Johnson, Max Holloway and St-Pierre.
Jones, Khabib and Usman need three more wins to overcome the man on top. Anderson Silva tops the list with 16 wins but he was released by the promotion a month back.
Kamaru Usman making a name for himself
Usman might be one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC. However, he wanted more respect for his name after the win at UFC 258 and was heard shouting that to the camera.
Usman is now on a 17-fight winning streak and his only professional MMA loss came in his second fight.
He hasn’t lost a fight since 2013 and is now keen on having a rematch with Jorge Masvidal. Usman defeated Masvidal in a tough title defence but Gamebred took up the clash on six-days notice.
Usman wants to destroy Masvidal and is keen on giving him a full camp to prove, again, that he is one of the best ever.
