UFC 268 sees another bout added as Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler are set to fight it out in a lightweight contest
After months of passive-aggressive online trash talk, Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler will finally be going ahead. The fight is set to take place at UFC 268, which is expected to take place during the first week of November, later this year.
The card is headlined by a welterweight title rematch between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington and is believed to be held at the Madison Square Garden.
Only a week ago, Gaethje and Chandler had a go at each other after Chandler accused ‘The Highlight’ of ducking him multiple times.
ESPN MMA was the first report to the same. They had learned it from their reporter Brett Okamoto. UFC is yet to make the fight official.
ESPN MMA also reported that the contracts for the fight were yet to be signed, with November 6 being the date targeted for the event.
“Lightweights Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler will meet at UFC 268 in November, multiple sources told @bokamotoESPN. Contracts have not been signed, but both parties agreed to the bout. The promotion is targeting Madison Square Garden on Nov. 6 for the event.”
Michael Chandler last faced Charles Oliveira at UFC 262. The fight was for the lightweight title, right after Khabib Nurmagomedov had vacated his lightweight belt.
Chandler lost the fight due to TKO in the second round.
Justin Gaethje, on the other hand, is coming off a loss in one of the most historic cards in UFC history that saw Khabib Nurmagomedov announce his retirement.
‘The Highlight’ was beaten by Khabib in the second round of the fight via. submission due to a triangle choke.
Both the fighters will be looking forward to getting back on track.
