Kamaru Usman spoke about taking on boxing great Canelo Alvarez in his own yard
Kamaru Usman is one of the greatest welterweight fighters of all time. Since joining the UFC in 2015, the welterweight champ has gone on to smash a ton of records.
His win over Gilbert Burns at UFC 258, took him past the legendary Georges St-Pierre for the most consecutive wins in the UFC’s welterweight division (13 wins).
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ devastated Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261, and moved one step closer to the all-time record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC. Anderson Silva holds the record with 16 consecutive wins.
In a recent Instagram Live session where he hosted a Q & A, Usman claimed that he could even beat Canelo Alvarez in a boxing match if he “put his mind into it.”
However, the Nigerian did acknowledge the greatness of Alvarez.
He said:
“I think I can do anything that I put my mind to. I don’t disrespect Canelo. I think Canelo is one of the best, one of the greatest of this generation and I do not disrespect him at all. I respect his skills and I think he’s a phenomenal champion. But I also know whatever I put I mind to, I go out there and I get it. So if it’s in the cards in the future, maybe we’ll dance. We’ll see.” [via Bloody Elbow]
