Kamaru Usman was knocked out for the very first time in his illustrious career by a vicious head-kick KO from Leon Edwards at UFC 278
Just as it looked like it was a routine win for pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman at UFC 278, Leon Edwards did the unthinkable. The Jamaican-born Brit executed a stunning head kick in the final minute of the final round that put the lights out on the Nigerian.
‘Rocky’ got off to a rollicking start becoming the first man to takedown Usman successfully in the UFC. Having won the first round, Edwards seemed like an acid test for the ‘Nigerian Nightmare.’
However, a fired-up Usman bounced back, making phenomenal but expected improvements from the second round onwards.
At one point, it looked like Edwards had already given up on his title dreams. In the fifth and final round, came the wild moment.
With 56 seconds left on the clock, Edwards nailed a shin to Usman’s chin that had the champ (former) unconscious from the very second he connected.
A stunned Vivint Arena was definitely not ready for that, as Usman lay motionless on the canvas.
“It鈥檚 insane how people turn on greatness, and how quickly Goliaths can fall in this sport” – Twitterati react to Kamaru Usman lying on the floor motionless following Leon Edwards KO
A barrage of Twitter reactions followed in the immediate aftermath of Usman’s devastating KO loss.
While a few took to express how scary and unpredictable the knockout was, a good chunk of people also made mockery of the ‘Nigerian Nightmare.’
