“Run their mouths” – Kamaru Usman hits back at Conor McGregor after the Irishman’s callout

At one point it looked like Conor McGregor would face Kamaru Usman in the welterweight division

Kamaru Usman descended further into greatness after he knocked out Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. That was his 14th consecutive victory in the UFC, and also in the welterweight division.

He had already bettered Georges St-Pierre’s record for most consecutive wins in the welterweight division (GSP had 12).

After successfully defending his Welterweight title, for yet another time, people began hailing him as the next UFC great. In fact, his name is brought up very often in the GOAT debate in recent times.

Elsewhere, McGregor wasn’t convinced with Usman’s victory at UFC 261.

The Irishman accused Usman of copying his words and shots, posting a clip of himself rocking Dustin Poirier with a big right hand at UFC 257. It was Usman’s massive right hand that knocked Masvidal out at UFC 261.

Usman addressed McGregor calling him out on Twitter in an interview with CBS Sports HQ, saying that the Irishman was doing it for clout and to stay relevant.

Usman was quoted as saying:

“I mean that’s just exactly what it is. These guys are trying to steal your thunder, or chase clout, or attach their name to you. And, I just shrug it off my shoulders. Because at the end of the day, that’s all it is. These guys just run their mouths.”

Kamaru Usman revealed that he had already offered Conor McGregor a chance to fight him

Usman also explained that he had offered McGregor a chance to fight him whenever he wanted to. Saying so, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ claimed that McGregor went silent whenever he offered him a fight.

Usman said:

“Basically he just wants to stay relevant. He doesn’t want to fight me, I’ve offered him the fight. He said no. And I’ll offer him again, gladly today. I guarantee you, he will say no. So I just let it run off.”

McGregor’s return at UFC 246, when he took on Donald Cerrone in a welterweight bout, put the entire division on high alert after he beat ‘Cowboy’ just 40 seconds into the first round.

But then McGregor temporarily retired and then moved back to the lightweight division.
