Kamaru Usman laid rest to doubts of being the best as he defeated Jorge Masvidal with an impressive punch KO at UFC 261
There was a lot of huge coming into UFC 261 with three titles on the line. Valentina Shevchenko defended her gold against Jessica Andrade, Zhang Weili lost her title to Rose Namajunas via a sensational kick, and then there was the third.
Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal was the fight of the night in terms of the rivalry and build-up. Usman and Masvidal met at UFC 251 and there was a lot of doubt about Usman’s win as Gamebred took up the fight in less than a week’s notice.
This time, Gamebred had a complete training camp but he was still no match for Usman. The first round saw Usman wrestle Gamebred several times and produce some fantastic takedowns.
However, Masvidal also had some great hits on Usman. The second round, however, produced a fantastic KO.
It did not come from Masvidal but from Usman. A stunning right hand knocked Masvidal out and the sweat flew off his head.
Usman went in for the kill and there was no disputing he is possibly the greatest Welterweight ever.
There was a ton of respect between the fighters after the clash and Usman thanked Masvidal for taking him to another level.
Masvidal, for all the trash talking, admitted that Usman won the fight fair and square. Gamebred added that he underestimated the power of Usman and thought this was going to be a wrestling match.
Usman also brought his family to the Octagon and celebrated the moment with his daughter.
Usman is known for his wrestling but the champion has sharpened his skills in other areas. He brought out the heavy hands to destroy Gilbert Burns and did the same to Masvidal.
The champion might be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and his next target is a rematch with Colby Covington.
