Kevin Holland wants a crack at Jorge Masvidal’s BMF title after UFC 261

BMF title holder Jorge Masvidal disappointed his home crowd as he was beaten by an unstoppable Kamaru Usman.

Masvidal was knocked out for the first time in his UFC career, as he tasted defeat in only the second round of the main event at UFC 261, against Kamaru Usman.

Gamebred looked confident coming into the fight, as he was coming off a full training camp – which wasn’t the case when he faced Usman the last time at UFC 251. He had taken the fight on just 6 days notice but still managed to put on a better show than he did today.

Just like his first round at UFC 251, Masvidal started off well at UFC 261, too.

But, Usman who is often criticized for always taking the game to the ground, showed the world that he can strike like a truck if he wanted to, as a huge straight right hand knocked Masvidal out cold, in the second round.

Masvidal’s knockout loss came in as a surprise to many, since he has never been hurt this bad in his 18 year long career.

As soon as Masvidal was knocked out, UFC Middleweight Kevin Holland who has been in a rough patch of late stepped in. ‘The Trailblazer’ asked if the BMF title of Jorge Masvidal was up for grabs.

What next for Kevin Holland?

2020 belonged to Kevin Holland. The Trailblazer raked up 5 wins in the year 2020 alone, and looked destined for greatness. However, he got a reality check when he took on Derek Brunson, as he was thoroughly outclassed and outwrestled against Brunson.

Had Holland worked on his takedown defense, he could have fared a lot better. But, he never improved his takedown defense and put on a dismal show against his next opponent Marvin Vettori, as well.

His weakness was exposed! Just as he looked to break into the top 5 of the middleweight rankings, he was pushed out of the top 10 in no time. Holland currently sits at number 12.

The Trailblazer might probably get one more higher-ranked opponent to prove his worth. And, hence it is high time he improves his ground game and takedown defense.
