Kevin Holland has been rumoured to have a fight against Khamzat Chimaev
Dana White quashed the hopes of many MMA fans who were speculating a fight between two of UFC’s hottest prospects, Khamzat Chimaev and Kevin Holland.
Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White said that Chimaev and Holland were two fighters to watch out for in 2021. Fans took it as a further hint that the two could collide very soon.
“So you’ve got Kevin Holland. Another guy like Chimaev, who wants to fight all the time. The kid went 5-0 in 2020. He’s fun, he’s exciting. Good looking kid.”
However, White revealed in a 45 minute Q&A session that the fight wasn’t on the cards because the two fighters are in different weight classes. Holland is currently in middleweight, while Chimaev fights in welterweight.
Holland quoted the tweeted and implied that the words “at the moment” are important. This means that he is thinking about changing divisions in order to fight the Chechen-born Swede.
In the tweet, Holland asks Chimaev and his team to “walk the walk”, implying that the hype around Borz is not worth it unless he backs it up in the ring.
Chimaev fought thrice in 2020; he beat Rhys McKee at UFC Fight Island 3 while securing an impressive victory against Gerald Meerschaert at UFC Vegas 11.
He also beat John Phillips on his UFC debut, which really got a lot of people talking.
However, Kevin Holland has been way more active. The 28-year-old fought 5 times in 2020. Moreover, he won all of them, finishing all but 1 fight which he won via a unanimous decision.
The most recent of those came in a vicious knockout of Jacare Souza at UFC 256 in December. Holland has been one of the most in-form fighters in the past 12 months and we really hope he gets a fight with Chimaev in the future.
