Kevin Holland takes down a man in Houston who pulled out a gun and opened fire in a restaurant that had approximately 50 people inside
The reputation of UFC fighters from its so-called ‘human cock-fighters’ days to professional athletes has been a long journey. But when push comes to shove, a lot of these fighters step up, and prominent amongst those ranks is fresh UFC welterweight Kevin Holland.
Holland was at the Ra Sushi restaurant in the Highland Village area, Houston when a man pulled out a gun and opened fire. The UFC fighter along with two other individuals heroically took the man down, in a news first reported by Ariel Helwani.
“I wouldn’t tell the next person to do it unless they’re seriously trained for that type of situation,” Holland told ESPN. “Besides doing cage fighting, I train self-defense first and foremost. For me, that was the best way to defend myself at the moment. Plus, I like Batman.”
The identities of the other two people involved in containing the shooter haven’t been disclosed because they are witnesses to the crime.
Concluding the melee, Holland confirmed by putting out a statement saying, “No one was injured not even the shooter just saying.”
Kevin Holland withdraws Donald Cerrone callout after UFC 272
One of the most exciting fights of the UFC 272 card was delivered when Kevin Holland and Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliviera stepped to face each other. After facing some initial adversity in the first round, Holland bounced back and earned a TKO victory over the UFC veteran.
Speaking to Joe Rogan at the post-fight octagon interview, Holland expressed his interest to take out another Cowboy, with Donald Cerrone in attendance. The idea enthralled fans and they showed their reception with their applauds.
Reacting to the callout during the post-fight media interview, Holland said he’d rather fight Cowboy’s protegee Daniel Rodriguez.
“I was just throwing up stupid sh*t,” Holland said, of the original callout. “I be just talking. I think the the other ‘Cowboy’ and me should not fight, to be honest with you. I think I should be fighting Daniel Rodriguez next, just because last time I called out ‘Cowboy,’ Daniel Rodriguez hopped in my inbox and was like, ‘Yo, don’t do that. That’s my OG.’ So respect to both of those guys.
“Of course I’d like to fight the OG, but sometimes you’ve got to take out the student to take out the OG. If I take out the student, I don’t even really feel like I need to take out the OG. It’d be nice to have the name on the board, but at the end of the day, I’m a big ‘Cowboy’ fan. So, it probably wouldn’t even make me feel as good as I think it would.”
