Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 is more or less confirmed but Kevin Lee was having none of it
Kevin Lee is looking to make a return after almost a year out. The UFC Lightweight’s last fight was a loss to Charles Oliveira and he was speaking to MMA Junkie about his future.
Lee has been hampered by two ACL injuries but is close to being 100%. He was keen on having a rematch with Tony Ferguson, a fight he lost at UFC 216, but had a lot to say about the Lightweight division too.
Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from the UFC but they haven’t taken the title from him. Dana White has suggested that an unofficial Lightweight tournament will decide the new champion but the president is also hoping for Khabib to return.
Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 is also in the works despite the Irishman being humbled by The Diamond a while back.
That didn’t sit well with Lee as he hit out at these plans, something that White had also shared:
“I think it makes a whole lot of sense for him [McGregor] to come back and fight Nate [Diaz].
“I know they are talking about doing Poirier again, which would be stupid, even on his end.”
Lee then brought up why the rematch didn’t make sense at all:
“I don’t think a lot of people comeback from being knocked out in the immediate rematch and get to win it.
“I mean, come on, can we stop giving the guy so many, he gets a lot benefits that’s for sure. He gets to call all his fights and avenge his losses right away.”
Kevin Lee open to fighting Conor McGregor
Lee then claimed he would have to wait four years to face Ferguson again before getting El Cucuy in the Octagon.
Lee wanted McGregor to fight Diaz first and then he also wanted a crack at the Irishman soon. The 28-year-old Lee also made another big statement by suggesting that people liked seeing McGregor lose.
He claimed that McGregor’s stock didn’t take a beating after the loss to Poirier at UFC 257. Lee believed another loss could be coming soon and that would get a lot of fans excited.
