Kevin Lee claims Jon Jones emulated his dressing style at UFC 285 press conference
Kevin Lee, a fighter in the UFC, thinks that Jon Jones’s outfit at the UFC 285 press conference earlier this month was a tribute to him. Lee is back after leaving the UFC to try something new. The company re-signed him earlier this year, and they expect him to compete at some point in 2023.
At UFC 285, Jon Jones came back and finished Ciryl Gane in just two minutes. Jon showed that he is one of the best fighters of all time, and the fight was over before it really started.
Lee and Jones talked to each other a few times back in the day. One of these times was at a press conference in 2017 where Lee wore the black and white shirt you can see in the picture.
At the press conference for UFC 285, “Bones” wore a similar outfit. The lightweight challenger thought that he was doing it to show respect for him.
Speaking with the Schmo in a recent interview, Lee stated:
“It’s hard to deny it at this point. Me and Jon ain’t never really got along too well, but I see he wore what I wore to the press conference that was nice. That was a nice little shout-out from the G.O.A.T. So; I’m going with Jon. Yeah, pound for pound, he’s the best…He was at that, so he kind of liked it. I liked it too, that was nice. He gave some homage, paying homage. I respect it.”
Tom Aspinall hails Jon Jones as the ‘GOAT’ and claims his presence in the heavyweight division fuels his motivation
In his return to the octagon after more than three years away, Jon Jones choked out Ciryl Gane in less than two minutes at UFC 285 in Las Vegas, winning the heavyweight championship. ‘Bones’ is one of the few UFC fighters to win titles at two different weight classes, and he is set to defend his titles later this year against former champion Stipe Miocic.
Recently, Tom Aspinall considered what it means to have “Bones” competing in the heavyweight class. The sixth-ranked heavyweight, in an interview with Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour, said:
“With Jon Jones, it’s difficult to make an argument against [him being the greatest of all-time]. Honestly, the guy is special. He is special, and to say that he is the champion of my division right now – that gives me an unbelievable amount of motivation.”
He added:
“Let’s be honest, I’m probably not going to fight him, but just to aim for it, that’s something special for a guy like me.
Tom Aspinall shared that he believes the heavyweight champion will retire after facing Stipe Miocic. Maybe I’m wrong. That is like my dream fight, honestly, to fight Jon Jones. That’s a serious motivation for me since he became champ. I know it was only like a week or two ago, but the GOAT is the champ of my division.”
